Out-of-School Time (OST) Leadership Program
Program Overview
Our leadership program activities are implemented in three seasons: spring, summer and fall; and are led by team leaders who are college students serving as role models, mentors, and coaches. Under their guardianship are high school students (some of whom were program “graduates”) who volunteered as assistant team leaders, to support them.
- Spring & Fall Programming Season
- Summer Programming Season
The spring and fall leadership program engages youth 4 days a week for 10 sessions.
The summer programming involves a much larger group of youth from schools and community centers partners. The program runs 5 days/week for 6 weeks in the schools and 3 days/week for 9 weeks in the community centers.
For all seasons, participants spent one hour on reading/dialogue/writing activities and one hour on soccer/team-building activities daily. There are approximately 130 contact hours per student in our school partners and 45 contact hours per summer season per student in our community centers partners.
Our Inner Belief
Our leadership program is based on the belief that if youth are aware of their value as members of the community, if they develop problem-solving skills to appropriately deal with daily challenges and if they learn to cultivate a sense of power to guide their life in a positive direction; they will engage in meaningful life experiences and strive to become productive members of the community.
