Program Overview

Guided by our robust strategic plan, our program curriculum have been designed to meet the unique leadership development needs of girls, building deep community support for all the youth we serve, and factoring into our programs a more genuine understanding of the complexity of the Twin Cities’ cultural diversity.

Outcomes for Youth

Through our long-term investment in our urban and immigrant communities, our collective effort is to create environments where youth not only avoid risky behavior but truly thrive. Our program focuses on three major outcomes:

Leadership development:

In this session, participants, through interactive activities identify external barriers and apply skills learned to transform these barriers into key supports, around which to mobilize their resource to achieve collective goals.

Confidence/self-esteem:

Participants are guided to discover the value of youth in the family and community, and learn skills, through interactive activities, to achieve high value as member of family, student body and community.

Healthy lifestyles:

Participants explore youth power through making proactive, good choices. The sessions cover three specific areas that affected youth life and use the skills learned to increase their power, control their life and positively influence their peers.

Evaluation

Team Leader Observations and Discussion: Team leaders found that the best aspect of the program for the participants was having good role models who are committed to them. They also found that participants are more engaged when discussing topics that related most to their lives, including home life, alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, and fighting.

Participant Reflection through a letter to his team leader: Thank you for telling me that I can move forward in life and I did. I got better in school, work, home, and other things, so thank you.
